Quiet little Molly is an- all around excellent dog. Only 23 pounds, she's just the right size. A little shy at first but after she gets acquainted, she likes to be petted tenderly and will hang out close to where you are. She's potty trained and gets along with kids of all sizes although the little ones still scare her a bit. She prefers a gentle approach. Molly likes other dogs and cats as well. She's approximately 6 years old, but still plenty playful. Molly enjoys being in her crate and goes in by herself. Molly is very obedient when told no about anything she's not supposed to do.     Bentley: Learning To Have Fun in A Simple Way The Forrest Gump of Dogs Hey everyone! Bentley is my name. Laying low is my game. I'm a sweet foster dog looking for my forever home. If you like chillin' and giving belly rubs, then I could be your little dog gnome. I'm a Beagle/Coon/Bassett mix. I snort like a Beagle and boy like a Bassett. Those are my two best tricks. I'm quiet most of the time. Napping away the day is really my only crime. I'm learning to play with toys. And I like to hang out and just be one of the boys. I've learned how to sit. I'm learning new tricks. I'm learning about what fun it is to be a dog'|.. though I ... (Read More)know nothing about writing a blog. I love to be near my humans all of the time Especially with that teen girl; she treats me so fine! I sleep with her every night! That suits me just right! I will kennel with some treats. Foster mom says I'm smiley and sweet. I have a ball I carry with me wherever I go. I'm not possessive of it-just like it to be my cargo. If a quiet and sweet dog is what you're looking for then'|'|. You need NOT search anymore!!!! From Bentley's foster mom: Every day we learn something new (and good) about Bentley. He is truly sweet, kind hearted, and wants to please. He's in a home with seven (7) fur siblings; Five are dogs and two are cats. He does well with all humans and animals alike! His nature and disposition remind me of Forest Gump'|'|'|'|'|'|.Here's why: 1. 'You have to do the best with what God gave you'. Bentley is simple yet smart. He's doing the best he can be while in a completely different place then where he was before. 2. 'Mama always said, life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get'. Almost daily we learn something new about Bentley. As he grows more and more comfortable in our home and is becoming accustomed to our routine, his pleasant personality is emerging in various ways. We've found that he's pretty mild mannered and while not food motivated like you would think a Beagle would be, he does know thoroughly enjoy his breakfast and dinner times! 3. Young Jenny: 'What's wrong with your legs'? Young Forrest: 'Um, nothing at all. Thank you. My legs are just fine and dandy'. Bentley's back legs have a different look about them when he walks; the vet believes that this is most likely due to trauma of some kind when he was a pup. It does not interfere with his life at all and no special care is needed. 4. 'Well, now we ain't strangers anymore'. Bentley is happy to meet and be around everybody! 5. When Bentley runs, his back end looks a little 'different' b/c of previous trauma. He looks like he's smiling when he's running though, and it's a joy to watch him run. We just can't help but say, 'Run Bentley, run' when we watch him. 6. He's loyal to his human family. It's like he's saying, 'If there's anything you need, I won't be far away'. And he's never far from his humans! 7. And lastly, Bentley would tell you, 'That's all I have to say about that!' Bentley is up to date on immunizations, HW negative, micro-chipped and ready for YOU to love him. He has so much love to give in return! Rescue Me ID: 17-03-27-00269Ally (female)

Foxhound    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello FUREVER Families!! My name is Ally and I am looking for my FUREVER home!! I am a one-year-old Foxhound and I have LOTS of energy. My perfect FUREVER family would have LOTS of energy to play with me and run with me. Before I was rescued, I was picked up as a stray and put in a horrible place with lots of other dogs. I was so freaked out, I barked all the time and almost lost my bark. I heard the humans say I was the one who needed to 'go,' and that meant putting me on death row. The wonderful people from Basset and Beagle Rescue of the Heartland found my foster family and I was saved!! When I arrived at my foster home, I was so skinny ... (Read More)and sick; and it was obvious that I had no training. I have learned a lot since coming into rescue. I used to think everyone wanted my food and often growled at my foster fur-siblings when they came close to it. And I would eat all of their food too. As soon as I learned I would always get food, then I stopped growling at them and I only eat out of my bowl. I am fully house-broken and I am working on following other commands. I love to explore using my nose, especially in the kitchen; however, I have never gotten anything off of the counter. I know 'outside,' 'treat,' 'toy,' 'sit,' 'lay down,' and 'no,' but being the stubborn hound that I am, I don't always follow those commands. Sometimes I get confused about when it is playtime and when it is not-because it's always playtime for me!! I also LOVE running around the yard, playing fetch, and chewing on squeaky toys!! If I had a basketful of toys I could call my own, then I would be in hound-heaven! I might need a privacy fence because my humans sometimes think I will jump their four-foot fence to play with the neighbor dogs. I love going on walks and I am still working on not pulling when leashed. I spend a lot of time in my kennel because sometimes my humans and foster fur-sibling don't have enough energy for me. I'm pretty happy in there with my toys and an occasional KONG filled with peanut butter. I stay in my kennel while my humans are at work and school. Getting out of the kennel is my favorite part of the day!! I love to play with other dogs, but sometimes they think I am overly enthusiastic and don't want to play with me. Someone told my foster family I should not be around cats, which is probably a good idea. I would also do better in a home with older children (10+) due to my energy level. At night, I sleep all night in my kennel and my humans really like how I wait to get out of my kennel in the morning without making a peep! Will you be my new running partner, playmate, and FUREVER FAMILY? If you are interested in Ally, please fill out an adoption application at www.bassetandbeagle.org (Less)

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

***ADOPTION PENDING** Hi everyone!! My name is Rizzo. I am ready for my interview for the position of your new best friend. 1. Tell me about yourself. I am a 1-2 year old beagle mix. I weigh 35lbs and I am pretty strong. I am super adorable if I do say so myself. 2. What is your greatest strength? I have a great attitude. I always am happy and try to make others around me happy too! I am willing to learn and have already made great strides in becoming comfortable in my surroundings (at first I was a bit skittish, but I have no problems anymore!). I also have been working on basic commands and should have them mastered in no time! 3. ... (Read More)What is your weakness? My biggest weakness is my hatred for my crate. I do not want to be in it. If you put me in a crate, I will find a way to escape. I am not joking. I am continuously impressing my foster mom with my creativity in obtaining my freedom. But, my foster mom thinks I am a super good boy, so she is able to leave me out all day and I never make a mess. I am much happier with this arrangement. 4. What do you like to do for fun? I love chewing on bones and toys or napping at your feet. I also like to chase my foster puppy brother around in circles outside. 5. Are you able to work with others? Yes, I absolutely love my foster puppy brother and sister and I don't mind cats. 6. What are your salary requirements? All I ask for is meals (I love food), toys, and love! (and treats, lots of treats). 7. Why should we adopt you? Because I am honestly one of the best dogs. While I do hate my crate, besides that I am pretty calm and happy all the time. I like to hang out with you and do things on your schedule. If you want to nap, I will join you! If you want to play, I am up for that too! I am very flexible! All I want to do is love you and be your best friend! 8. Anything else we should know? I am up to date on all my vaccines and neutered. I am currently receiving treatment for heartworm.     Finn is a gentle middle aged bagel (around 8-10), with a gorgeous chocolate coat and soulful golden eyes, and all he wants to do is love you. (And maybe go for walks and patrol the backyard for bunnies.) This shy little guy can get very fearful around noisy situations, so he would do best in a quiet home with a companion dog and no small children. His favorite thing in the whole world is to quietly sit next to a human so they can pet him for hours. He is house and crate trained, and is a very sweet little dude. Rescue Me ID: 17-03-08-00108Roscoe (male)

Treeing Walker Coonhound    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Roscoe is a very sweet and gentle older Treeing Walker hound around 7 years of age and weighing about 55 pounds. He was found in rural MO. after being hit by a car. As a result of being hit, Roscoe had to have his back left hind leg amputated. He had his leg amputated shortly before coming into rescue in January, 2017 and is still learning how to navigate without his leg. He is very determined and is doing wonderfully although the laminate floors make him skid and slide at times! He is sometimes hesitant to go up stairs, but he is gaining confidence with that as well. He walks well on a leash but short walks are best due to his ... (Read More)amputation. Roscoe had to have some teeth extracted also, so he's not really into nylabones or other chew toys. Roscoe would prefer a quieter home. He is fine with children. He gets along with other dogs and cats. Roscoe is an independent, easy going fella, and he would be comfortable being the only dog or just as comfortable having other dogs around. Roscoe's favorite things are treats, lying in the sun, treats, head and neck rubs, treats, howling at sirens and more treats. I think Roscoe feels most comfortable outside as he was probably an outdoor dog, but he definitely loves to be inside to sleep at night or if it's cold out. Roscoe is potty trained but his foster home has a doggy door, so he would need time to establish a new routine if his new home does not have one. Roscoe loves his crate and feels very safe in it. He sleeps in his crate every night. The door is left open to the crate and he has access to the rest of the house, but he feels comfortable there. Roscoe is still very timid and learning that he can trust people. He is trying to be more brave and connect with his foster family. He will need some time and patience to trust when he goes to his new home. Roscoe is definitely one of the sweetest and gentle hounds his foster family has ever fostered. Roscoe can also be trusted to not be crated while left at home alone. He is not destructive and just relaxes. Roscoe is current on vaccinations, been heartworm tested and tested negative and is on heartworm prevention. He is neutered and microchipped. He is fostered in MO., but travel can be arranged for his adoption to get this sweet guy to his new home!     ****ADOPTION PENDING** Small people, big people, I love people! Waitsmall dogs, big dogs, I love dogs! Oh, and cats too, so long as they'll play with me, but I know when to back off. My name is Benny and I'm a year old basset/beagle mix with a heart of gold. I'm house trained and kennel trained and will sleep in the kennel at night or snuggle in bed with you. I'd prefer to snuggle but if you don't think the bed isn't big enough I can sleep in the kennel without any issues. I get really excited to see new people and just want to play with you so I may jump a little, but if you tell me to sit, I'll calm down just a little to let you ... (Read More)love on me and belly rubs are the best. I'm working on my leash manners and my foster mom says I'm doing pretty good when I'm by myself, but if you walk me with other dogs, I just want to play and bounce around. I know 'sit' and 'down' and am trying to learn 'off' and 'stay' but it's so hard because I can't hardly sit still. I'm not aggressive towards other dogs or people, but I do like to steal all the toys so if you have a dominant dog we might have to try to work things out (I have a foster sister right now that I'm working on). I don't have food aggression but I love food and will try to eat everyone's food if they let me. I'm really good when my foster parents are eating, I don't beg or anything. I'd prefer to go home with a family who is very active as I have a lot of energy. I like to have a fenced yard so I can run around without my leash and I don't think I climb and I know I don't dig. I have a 6 foot wood fence at my foster mom's house and have never tried to climb or jump on it. Benny is current on his vaccinations, neutered, HW negative, and micro shipped. Taco has never seen snow and has come out as a true Nebraskan. He loved it more than any other pup I have seen! And he loves to go outdoors with Sweet Pea so that means he is well on his way to being potty trained. He loves to snuggle in bed with the other dogs, destroy cardboard and play with squeaky toys.     ***ADOPTION PENDING*** Hi y'all! Im a small, young southern gal Lousianna. Estimations are I'm about 1-2 yrs old. The nice people in Omaha rescued me from a very over crowded shelter. I have been staying in a wonderful foster home in Omaha being a very good girl. They say I am very sweet. I stay in my kennel quietly all day while my foster family is at work. I am not a noisy dog. At night when they get home I LOVE to play with my toys, tug of war, and run around the back yard. Im a chewer so make sure I have good things to chew on so I don't get your shoes! Im very energetic and LOVE to be outside so my ideal forever home would ... (Read More)have a fenced in yard. Ive been doing a great job going potty outside, not had one accident! Watching bunnies and squirrels and chasing them is great fun for me. I have not been around cats at all so not sure about those creatures. But I have been around kids and I love them! I also love other dogs. Weighing in at only 10 lbs, I love to cuddle when it's bed time. I have been spayed , am up to date on all my shots and am heartworm negative.     Hello I'm Sparky. I'm an 11 year old beagle/cocker spaniel mix. My owner had to give me up because we became homeless. We were living in her car for a while but when the car died she had to move to a homeless shelter and I was not allowed to go with her. My owner thought it would be best to surrender me so I could find a wonderful home. I am in excellent health but I do have a little bit of arthritis. I get along ok with other dogs but would probably be best being an only dog as I'm an alpha dog with some food aggression. I am not fostered with cats, so I am not sure how I would do. I love people and would be great for a person who ... (Read More)is home at least part time. I don't like the crate but will stay in it if I have too. I love car rides and exploring with you. Beagle    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

***ADOPTION PENDING*** Hi, I'm Mattie the Beagle. I'm about 8 years young and looking for my forever family. I'm not fussy; I have plenty of love to give to a whole bunch of people (big & small) or just one special someone to call my own. I've been told that I'm so sweet and just fun to have by your side. I'm learning all about being an inside dog and to tell you the truth, I LOVE IT!!! I adapted to my foster family's schedule and I haven't had any bathroom accidents. I enjoy looking out the window and watching the neighborhood. My foster mom says I wouldn't make a very good watch dog; I'm too quiet. Yes, it's true...I'm a quiet ... (Read More)beagle. I just love running the perimeter of the fence, sniffing out all the bunnies and racing back when I hear my name called. The neighbor's dog tries to talk to me but I am too shy and don't answer him back. I did bark once to tell my foster mom about a skunk I saw. We quickly came inside%BD'%BD|did I mention that I am easy to pick up and carry? A little about me: I'm slightly a work in progress with my commands, but boy do I love all the positive reinforcement when I get them correct. My favorite reward are those things called belly rubs!! Yup, I will do anything for a belly rub. I'm also very curious and like to follow my foster family from room to room. Initially, I waited to be invited but now I understand that I'm allowed to go all over. I don't want to brag, but I'm about 90% trustable to leave out when you are gone. Occasionally, I see a box and, well, that is my downfall. Boxes & papers%BD'%BD|but not furniture. I don't chew on those hard things. I love it when people talk to me. I can sit and listen for hours. I just snuggle right into them. Sometimes, I even fall asleep on their laps. I have a stuffed monkey and pink bunny which I carry with me from room to room. I 'dine' in my crate for breakfast & dinner but I take my snacks during the day with my furry foster sister. If the door is open, I like to go in & out of my crate during the day. However, I get very anxious if I am locked in there for any length of time. That's why my foster family is working with me to be 100% house trustable. I enjoy meeting new people of all ages and other dogs. I haven't met a cat yet, but I'm sure with the right introduction I could get along. My foster mom says I am a true heart-melter with the gentlest disposition. Mattie is current on vaccinations, spayed, and micro chipped. She is currently undergoing treatment for HW Disease.     Hi my name is Reggie but it should be some like Don as in Don Juan because I am such a lover. Just look in my eyes and pet my belly is all I really want in life. I am a 7 year Bassador - the best traits of Basset and Labradors. I am sort of kennel trained. I go into the kennel and will let you know in a bit that I am unhappy but then I settle down quickly. I am great around other dogs, some I will even play with. I have never tried cats but I think I would be chilled with them too. I am great around all kinds of humans - both the big and little. In fact, my favorite spot is sleeping in my foster families little ones beds when they are ... (Read More)off to school. I am great on the leash that is, when you are going the way I want to go!     Well hello there! I'm Skipper. I may look like an older gentleman on the outside but inside there is a younger, respectable and slightly energetic man. My foster mom tells me I'm about 8 years old and I weigh around 37lbs. but at times I feel like a young pup! I am quite the intelligent man too. I know many commands and become ecstatic when my foster mom says it's time to train. I love to learn and I really love to get treats! My foster mom says I should go to a home with a yard and I am in complete agreement. Sometimes my young energy kicks in and I need a place to get it all out. I am respectable though. I do not dig or climb fences. I do ... (Read More)like to let the neighborhood know I exist with my old man bark. All the other dogs bark so I can respond, right? If I get a little rowdy I quickly listen to my foster mom's correction and come right in. She gets so excited that I listen so well! I currently have 4 other dogs to play with and I quite enjoy them. I want to be friends with them all even though the grumpy old one doesn't want to be friends with anyone. But even when she yells at me I respectfully listen and walk away. The younger dogs enjoy playing with me and help get that young energy out. I also have a human sibling. She's 4 years old and I enjoy watching her run about. I love when she stops to pet me and I have learned that she drops food at the table. She might just be my favorite human in the house! I know she is a tiny person so I never jump on her and I am careful when walking near her. I don't want to hurt my food buddy! I like to snuggle with my foster mom and dad. I'll lay beside them on the couch and they will rub me and it feels amazing. Most of the time I lie on my bed on the floor. I enjoy having my own special spot to go to when I am tired. I have quickly learned to go here when foster mom tells me to as well. Foster mom says she is very impressed with my quick learning abilities! Foster mom says my only 'setback' is I am a very strong boy. I surprised her the first time she walked me. I tried telling her she needed to keep up with my strength but she insists on teaching me how to walk calmer on a leash. There are just so many smells!!! Foster mom says I will need a strong owner for walking. As of now, foster mom insists on kenneling me when everyone is gone. The kennel can be a very scary place and I can get nervous when in it. Foster mom is helping me realize the kennel is a safe place and we are working on being free when everyone is gone. I am not destructive when everyone is home but foster mom said it's better to be safe than sorry when everyone leaves. We are working on being out alone for short periods of time and foster mom says that I am showing her I am a very good boy with great promise! Rescue Me ID: 17-01-01-00082Suzi (female)

Bluetick Coonhound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Suzi is a 3 year old, 50lb. coonhound mix with the sweetest disposition. She is an extremely intelligent dog and figured out the dog door in her foster home in under an hour without any coaching. She will go stand at the door to go outside if a dog door is not available. Suzi loves to be with her people and will follow you anywhere, but she especially loves to go on car rides. Suzi does well with the other dogs in the house, but does have a strong prey drive for smaller animals. Suzi has ignored the kitties at the pet store, but was a little too interested in them one on one, so she would prefer to be in a home without cats. She would love ... (Read More)to have a canine playmate or trips to the dog park if she is an only dog. Suzi is food protective with other dogs, but she does well if she is fed separately and not allowed around the table during meals. She has never shown aggression with a human of any age, even around food. Suzi has severe allergies that restrict her food choices to a readily available prescription dog food or a recipe created especially for her by a veterinary nutritionist that is easy to prepare. She receives weekly allergy shots as well as medicated baths and occasionally other medications and she takes them all like a champ. She will approach her foster mom and sit for her when she sees the needle and vial come out for her weekly injections and will take pills willingly with a few pieces of her kibble. She is great with kids of all ages, but would be better off with children old enough to understand not to feed her due to her allergies. She has small children in her foster home that she adores and is the dog celebrity in the neighborhood. Suzi is a foodie and likes everything whether she is allergic to it or not, so care must be taken to ensure human food is out of reach. Suzi is extremely mellow and loves spending time laying on the dog beds or whatever soft blankets she can find closest to you. She rarely barks, even when the neighbor dogs are greeting her loudly. She sleeps through the night and has not had any accidents in her foster home. She knows 'sit' and 'go to bed' and will generally comply with 'kennel'. Although she does not like being in her kennel, she rests quietly once inside. She arrived with skin and ear infections due to her allergies, but is completely healed. Suzi shares t-shirts (youth small/6x) with her foster sister to prevent her from scratching and biting her skin. She is working on leash training as she gets so excited about being out that she pulls on a leash. She would love to finally be in her forever home after being bounced around a few times through no fault of her own. She is a wonderful dog just looking for a soft place to land. She is spayed, HW negative and up to date on her vaccinations. Are you the special home for this special girl?     Hello! My name is Sophie & I am a 6 year old Beagle mix. I am really shy at first although I will open up once I get to know you a little better. I grew up on a farm so I am still learning how to be an inside dog but I think I've got it down. I do best with a routine & schedule. I don't mind being outside (unless it's cold & snowy) so I would love to have a big backyard where I can run around! I've never been around kids but I don't mind other dogs. In fact, I think I would love to have a friend to play with! From the foster parents: Sophie can be timid at times, especially around new people or a new place but warms up once she ... Her favorite spot is on her bed in the living room but she's also curious & likes to wander around the house sometimes. Sophie was not house trained when she came to us but she has quickly learned to go outside rather than inside. She is still learning how to walk on a leash & to use the kennel but has made huge strides with both of these. She is very smart & is a very quick learner! Treeing Walker Coonhound    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi! My name is JJ the Wonder Hound, aka 'Kid Dy-no-mite!' A lot can happen in a year. In one year, I was born, abandoned, shot, suffered a broken leg and was rescued. Whew! Being JJ is a full time job!! I am a Treeing Walker Coonhound currently being fostered in Springfield, Missouri. I came into rescue when I was found in a rural area, limping. The limp was the result of a gunshot wound, which resulted in breaking my leg. But, I am fully healed, and the past injury does not slow me down a bit. I am up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and neutered. At just a little over 1 year old, I still retain some of the exuberance of a ... (Read More)puppy, but I am slowly settling into the expected maturity of adulthood. Like most coonhounds, I'm a bit of a clown with a sweet disposition and a heart of gold. My adoptive home will need a privacy fence, as I can jump a typical 4 ft chain link fence (I told you that my past injury doesn't slow me down). I have been fostered with other dogs and with cats, and I get along well with both. A household with another dog that could show me the ropes would be greatly appreciated. Because of my size and exuberance, I would probably do well with older children. I am a bit of a power chewer. I would like a good supply of appropriate chewable items, especially Nylabones and Kong toys. (I like my Kong treat dispenser, but my little beagle foster sister, Daisy, stole it from me; I don't mess with her!). Your home may need to be proofed against the antics of a 70 lb toddler. I have done well when left the run of the house, but because my foster family has a doggie door (and I can jump the fence) I have been restricted indoors because of my chewing. So, I am currently crated while my dad is at work, which is not great for me, but I make it work. An active household would be a good fit for me. If you're the right family for a sweet, goofy hound, please consider me, JJ. There is never a dull moment with me in your life! DY-NO-MITE!!! Usually, though, he will come when called. He's a happy dog who wants to be loved and really likes tummy rubs. He also likes to play with other dogs but may fit best in a home with only one other dog about his same size or where he's the only dog. When he's not playing he wants to 'protect' his person from other dogs and has picked up a few nicks as a result. He should probably go to a home with no children under about 10. He's apparently been spoiled and, if he doesn't want to be picked ... (Read More)up or give up his toy, he does growl but has never actually snapped. He would be a good watch dog; he did not like the Cox repairman coming into our yard but once properly introduced he was fine. Rex also enjoys enthusiastically running around the back yard and laying in the sun. His preferred spot is on top of the patio table. He can jump and climb and loves to sit on the highest spot. He respects boundaries like fences and baby/pet gates. He is not entirely crate-trained but will go in to eat or if motivated by a treat, so he can likely adjust to it. At this time, he is accustomed to spending nights outside the crate and has behaved well. He is housebroken and has had no accidents. He likes to go on rides in the car. Rex does reasonably well on a leash but would do better with a harness. He wants to be a lap dog and if he can't actually be in your lap, he wants to be close by. He likes toys, especially knotted balls. He may know the 'sit' command. Rex is current on vaccinations, HW negative, neutered, and micro chipped.
