Beagle    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Charlie is a beautiful beagle and true hound dog. He loves going for walks, sniffing everything and being outside as long as someone is with him. A fenced yard would be great for him. He does really well around children and other dogs. Loves attention, especially petting and rubbing his belly. He does enjoy chewing on rawhide bones and will scrounge for any kind of food. Has had occasional accidents in the house, but not sure if that is just because of the medicine he has been on, which makes him very thirsty. He gets very excited when you have been gone and come home or when you let him out of his kennel in the mornings. Charlie is ... (Read More)current on vaccinations, and micro chipped. He is undergoing HW treatment which will be completed at the end of May. He will be neutered once he is cleared from HW disease.     Hi My name is Penelope. Penny for short. I'm a 7 1/2 year old beagle looking for a forever home. I'm potty trained, kennel trained and a great snuggler. I can guard the house by myself while you are at work and use the doggy door when needed. I prefer to take naps and lots of naps on the couch. I don't chew, except for those yummy bones. I promise I will keep all the squirrels and birds up in the tree, they shouldn't be on the ground anyway! I do love to go on walks and I'm learning to walk nicely and not get so excited. I do well with other dogs and people of all sizes! Penelope is current on vaccinations, spayed, HW negative and ... (Read More)micro chipped. Beagle Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there! My name is Judd, and I'm about 8 years old. I'm a former breeder dog and I am discovering the joys of being a pet. Because of my unique past I can be a nervous around new people and things (what the heck is a TV and why can't I get to that dog in it?), though I'm slowly warming up and gaining trust. More importantly, I'm small and cute and really just want to snuggle up in a quiet spot. I like snuggles and pets from humans who I have grown comfortable with and trust, too. I love other dogs as they help give me the confidence to come out of my shell though I do prefer to eat my food on my own. I'm still working on learning to ... (Read More)potty outside and it took me a while to learn to go outside and come in on my own but the other dogs in the house showed me how it's done. I'm okay in a kennel and it does help me not potty in the house when the people are away. My foster family has a toddler, and we respect each other, but I would probably be happier in a home without little ones, or where they just visit occasionally as boy can they make a lot of scary noises and move so darn fast. My ideal home would be a quieter one where I can take some time building up my confidence, preferably one with either no kids or older kids. I really would love a home with other dogs who I can play with and who can continue to show me the ropes of being a pet. I need a fenced yard as well as I don't really walk on a leash yet. The world is still rather scary so I tend to freeze up on a leash and prefer to be carried. I know I may sound like a lot of work and it will take me some time to get comfortable but I promise once I do I will reward you with lots of love and snuggles and will be your little shadow for life. Can you continue to help me blossom? Oh I'm told I should tell you that I'm fully vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative and neutered (that was not fun!).     Name: Berte (Bear-ta) Nickname: Bertie Breed: Bloodhound Age: 6-8 Favorite food: Whatever I can reach. (And I'm tall, ya'll!) Favorite toy: I'm obsessed with squeaky snakes! Favorite activities: Car rides, eating, hanging out in the yard, short walks (my hips won't hold out for long walks!), and lounging on the couch Looking for: A friend who appreciates my quirky sense of humor/mischievousness. A friend who won't mind buying the high quality food and enzyme shampoo that keeps my skin healthy, and the supplements that help my joints move a little easier. A friend who will help me get any future lumps/bumps removed. ... (Read More)(So...basically I guess I'm looking for a sugar mama/daddy with a sense of humor.) My personality: Laid back, loving, and a little lazy. Unless you leave food unattended...then I move like lightning...er, well...probably not like lightning, but faster than you think!     I love walks on the beach, sunrises and sunsets, deep conversation and '|oh wait, that is for my Foster Mom. Honestly, I think at times she is confused about who needs a home more, me or her. Glad you are looking at my glamour shot. I am Blue Belle; a name that I think fits me. My foster mom calls me Belle, Belly, Belly Mellie. And oh, by the way, I made it to the basement earlier this week when we had a tornado siren. Boom! I got this. So a bit about my history as I am told. I was a Puppy Mill Mom before I came to BBRH. I had no idea what that meant, but I do know now. This week, for example, I played with my foster brother ... (Read More)Ransom, a graduate of the class of 2016. That was a big deal for me because for the first two weeks I didn't come out of the crate; it reminded me of my other life as a Momma to puppies. Imagine this, today I actually joined my foster brother in play time with a squeaky toy and he loves me as a result. So a little about me. I am 6 years old, about 35 pounds as we speak, and I love to dance for food. I was told I wasn't potty trained but I have only had one accident outside of the rules here in my foster home, and my Mom says that it was her fault. I think she is right. My sweet gentle face, well, that is true no doubt, but I have a queen kind of thinking. I like what I like! I am likely a Bassett and Beagle mix although no one has confirmed that. My foster mom tells me we are transitioning to grey at the same time'|.I am cool with that. If you choose me, you will find a loving, and attentive companion. I have been on an amazing schedule which has allowed me to be out of my crate, and in the rhythm of a dog's life outside of the crate, including potty breaks. I truly can't get out of my own way, so I don't' need a fence. I need a lover'|. I dance for food and treat and I will love you until the end of time'|I promise. Belle, is current on vaccinations, spayed, and micro chipped. She is currently undergoing Heart Worm treatment. Beagle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

My name is Phineas and I'm a Beagle/mix but I think I'm part cat too. I've been watching the cat (I just like to observe it) and we have some similar characteristics. I love to snuggle and rub up against you (I really like to snuggle your face), and if you're done petting me but I'm not done being petted, I'll just rub against you some more. Sounds like a cat, right? There's just something about being petted and snuggling that I just can't get enough of! I do have Beagle characteristics also. I'm not overly loud, but I'll let you know if there is something going on so you won't be scared or if you do something wrong (like put me in my ... (Read More)kennel while you are home) and I can be kind of loud when I play. For the most part, I'm pretty mellow for being between 2 and 3 years old. I have two foster sisters and one foster brother but I like to play with my foster sisters the best! My foster brother is older and grumpier so I leave him alone. I will say, I don't like it when my foster sisters play and don't include me so I'd probably be best in a no dog or one dog home. I am learning some tricks, I pretty much have sit worked out but stay is much harder! I'm potty trained and know how to use a doggy door and I'm pretty good in the car (I prefer to be buckled up in the back seat). I'm still working on walking with the leash, but I'm not that heavy (only 20 lbs.) so I don't really pull hard. I'd love to meet you and show you how well I can snuggle! Phineas is current on vaccinations, neutered, and micro chipped. Phineas is currently undergoing heartworm treatment. He has to more treatments to go, them he will be ready for his forever family! Beagle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

My name is Mackenzie - I go by Mack or Kenzie and will come running if you whistle to me. I am a 4 yr. old hound mix, 70 lbs. spayed and sweet as sugar. Did I mention beautiful too? And potty trained too? My favorite past time is to chew on sticks and branches and lay around the yard. oh and Snow is awesome!! You can't get me to come back inside when it's snowing! Even though I am a bigger and taller hound, and could probably jump a 4 ft. fence, I do not jump them so I'll be fine with a 4 ft. fenced yard. Going for walks is great, but meeting other dogs on the leash sometimes makes me a bit nervous. I prefer to live with ... (Read More)smaller dogs than me, if any at all. Also I am super smart. I know sit, lay down, roll over, and LOVE my treats! Have you ever had a dog that like to spoon? Well I do, but when I get too hot I will move and go lie somewhere else. Also I am crate trained and enjoy going in my crate when you are gone or when the environment is hectic if you have a party or something. With this being said, I do enjoy a quieter home. The reason I am in rescue after living my whole life in one home, is that I get really nervous around little kids. After my family had little ones I really became jumpy and over anxious and it was too much for me to handle. So I would really enjoy a home without little kids. Older kids over 10 yrs. old are fine as I LOVE to play fetch, but the toddlers and babies make me jittery and anxious. I have a pretty high prey drive and I've never met a cat, but I really don't think I'd like them. Do you have room in your home for me? Mackenzie is current on vaccinations, HW negative, spayed, and micro chipped. If you are interested in Mackenzie, please fill out an adoption application at www.bassetandbeagle.org (Less)

***ADOPTION PENDING*** Are you looking for a love bug? That's me! Are you looking for someone to go on adventures with? That's me! Are you looking for a new family member and play mate? That's me! My name is Kali and I'm a 1 year old 35 pound beagle mix. I'm the perfect size, if I may say so myself! I enjoy cuddling, going on walks, being in the car and just about everything. There hasn't been any thing or any one that I haven't liked. I am potty trained and kennel trained and my foster parents are teaching me new tricks. I've learned sit in just a couple of days, so I must be pretty smart too. I'm still learning that I'm not ... I like to play with my foster brothers and sister but will entertain myself when they don't want to play. My foster parents have this thing called a cat. It's a weird creature that when I tried to sniff the first time, it made this funny noise and hit me. I leave it alone now. I would love to meet you and show you just how wonderful I really am!     Um, hi, my name is Carl, and uh, I want to sniff you but I'm also kind of sca- WHAT WAS THAT?? '|(distracted)'| oh yeah, sniffing you! I love sniffing. I'm a pretty relaxed guy for the most part, I enjoy laying on the couch, playing with my foster brother, eating any treat that doesn't eat me first (constant vigilance!), and nub wagging. I lost part of my tail and part of an ear, so I have a nub! Doesn't slow me down at all, and I'm told I'm still handsome. Don't be fooled by my salt-and- pepper-George-Clooney facial hair, I'm really only 3 or 4 years old. I was found in MO with an embedded collar in my armpit, so I'm a little sensitive ... (Read More)around that area and never expose my tummy. I love pets elsewhere though! I don't mind you playing with my paws, lips, or ears, and I'm very treat motivated. I'm looking for a home that's patient with me and not scary, like the vacuum cleaner, that thing is terrifying. I look to my foster brother to show me stairs aren't intimidating and all the good spots in the yard to pee. I love having a brother and would do really well in a home with an alpha dog to show me the ropes! I will gladly go in a kennel for a treat, but because of some medication that I'm on, I have a hard time holding my bladder. I feel so bad about it, but we're trying puppy pads! Speaking of puppies, I get along pretty well with the human puppy variety, as long as they go slow and let me sniff them first, otherwise I'm kind of scared! (I love sniffing) I pull a little bit on a leash, mostly because my sniffing leads me to curious and wonderful things, but because of my previous injury please don't put a harness on me. I am happiest when running free, and being pet and loved, are you the human for me? Note from the foster mom: Carl's been dealt a rough hand; abandoned, neglected, infested with heartworm. It is a miracle to me that he's so social. Although a little skittish, he's a trusting, loyal, laidback dude that's going to be a great addition to any family. (I'd like to think his favorite musical artist would be Simon and Garfunkel.) He deserves a second chance!     Bassett and Beagle Rescue of The Heartland is proud to present Gary-The Explorer. Gary is a 8 yr. old beagle through and through! Gary loves to go on adventures and run with the wind in his fur! Gary is in prime health, he has great teeth a wonderfully soft coat , up to date on his shots and micro chipped. Gary lives with his foster family and enjoys kids of all ages. Gary is currently working on potty training and has made great progress in the last 2 weeks. He still isn't perfect ... (Read More)but it won't be long before he has it all figured out. Since Gary is the adventurous type he would need a family with a 6 foot fence that is not chain linked. Gary is able to climb up a chain link fence to pursue his adventurous spirit! Gary does great with his foster beagle sister and they will play for hours outside and inside. Gary sleeps in his kennel at night and will also take naps in the kennel. He is very comfortable in the kennel. Gary really loves belly rubs and a good scratch behind the ears. His gentle manner and loving personality means he would be great for any family. Gary is a low energy middle aged dog and would be happy with a walk or some play time each day, but he does not need to burn off a bunch of energy like a younger dog would need. Gary is neutered and HW negative. If you are interested in Gary, please fill out an adoption application at www.bassetandbeagle.org (Less)

Hi My name is Hunter...... I am 6 years old but I act like I am 3. I am a beagle/terrier mix who weighs around 18lbs I love my foster family, they have spoiled me rotten !! I am timid when you first get to know me, but I am not aggressive at all. Unless there is food, then I am a scavenger, after all I am a hound! You have to watch me I had to fight for my food my foster mom thinks. When you aren't looking, I make my move I never hurt anyone, I am just after food! My foster mom thinks I got left outside a lot because I don't like to go into the backyard and have the door close. I will just sit by the door until someone lets me in. I ... My foster mom leaves the back door open so that I can go outside and come right back in. I love to snuggle and I am happiest lying next to you. I sleep every night with my human foster brother. He has nightmares and I help him sleep. I can point too because my foster mom said who ever had me before used me to hunt. But I don't hunt, I am a lover! I will do good with other dogs it will just take a little time. I don't mind cats and birds too but I like to chase cats and tell them I am the boss. Do you want to be my Fur ever home I would love to snuggle with you Right now I have heartworm disease, but I am working on getting that all cleared up so I can be nice and healthy for my forever home!! Rescue Me ID: 17-03-08-00108Roscoe (male)

Treeing Walker Coonhound    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Roscoe is a very sweet and gentle older Treeing Walker hound around 7 years of age and weighing about 55 pounds. He was found in rural MO. after being hit by a car. As a result of being hit, Roscoe had to have his back left hind leg amputated. He had his leg amputated shortly before coming into rescue in January, 2017 and is still learning how to navigate without his leg. He is very determined and is doing wonderfully although the laminate floors make him skid and slide at times! He is sometimes hesitant to go up stairs, but he is gaining confidence with that as well. He walks well on a leash but short walks are best due to his ... (Read More)amputation. Roscoe had to have some teeth extracted also, so he's not really into nylabones or other chew toys. Roscoe would prefer a quieter home. He is fine with children. He gets along with other dogs and cats. Roscoe is an independent, easy going fella, and he would be comfortable being the only dog or just as comfortable having other dogs around. Roscoe's favorite things are treats, lying in the sun, treats, head and neck rubs, treats, howling at sirens and more treats. I think Roscoe feels most comfortable outside as he was probably an outdoor dog, but he definitely loves to be inside to sleep at night or if it's cold out. Roscoe is potty trained but his foster home has a doggy door, so he would need time to establish a new routine if his new home does not have one. Roscoe loves his crate and feels very safe in it. He sleeps in his crate every night. The door is left open to the crate and he has access to the rest of the house, but he feels comfortable there. Roscoe is still very timid and learning that he can trust people. He is trying to be more brave and connect with his foster family. He will need some time and patience to trust when he goes to his new home. Roscoe is definitely one of the sweetest and gentle hounds his foster family has ever fostered. Roscoe can also be trusted to not be crated while left at home alone. He is not destructive and just relaxes. Roscoe is current on vaccinations, been heartworm tested and tested negative and is on heartworm prevention. He is neutered and microchipped. He is fostered in MO., but travel can be arranged for his adoption to get this sweet guy to his new home!     ***ADOPTION PENDING*** Hi, I'm Mattie the Beagle. I'm about 8 years young and looking for my forever family. I'm not fussy; I have plenty of love to give to a whole bunch of people (big & small) or just one special someone to call my own. I've been told that I'm so sweet and just fun to have by your side. I'm learning all about being an inside dog and to tell you the truth, I LOVE IT!!! I adapted to my foster family's schedule and I haven't had any bathroom accidents. I enjoy looking out the window and watching the neighborhood. My foster mom says I wouldn't make a very good watch dog; I'm too quiet. Yes, it's true...I'm a quiet ... (Read More)beagle. I just love running the perimeter of the fence, sniffing out all the bunnies and racing back when I hear my name called. The neighbor's dog tries to talk to me but I am too shy and don't answer him back. I did bark once to tell my foster mom about a skunk I saw. We quickly came inside%BD'%BD|did I mention that I am easy to pick up and carry? A little about me: I'm slightly a work in progress with my commands, but boy do I love all the positive reinforcement when I get them correct. My favorite reward are those things called belly rubs!! Yup, I will do anything for a belly rub. I'm also very curious and like to follow my foster family from room to room. Initially, I waited to be invited but now I understand that I'm allowed to go all over. I don't want to brag, but I'm about 90% trustable to leave out when you are gone. Occasionally, I see a box and, well, that is my downfall. Boxes & papers%BD'%BD|but not furniture. I don't chew on those hard things. I love it when people talk to me. I can sit and listen for hours. I just snuggle right into them. Sometimes, I even fall asleep on their laps. I have a stuffed monkey and pink bunny which I carry with me from room to room. I 'dine' in my crate for breakfast & dinner but I take my snacks during the day with my furry foster sister. If the door is open, I like to go in & out of my crate during the day. However, I get very anxious if I am locked in there for any length of time. That's why my foster family is working with me to be 100% house trustable. I enjoy meeting new people of all ages and other dogs. I haven't met a cat yet, but I'm sure with the right introduction I could get along. My foster mom says I am a true heart-melter with the gentlest disposition. Mattie is current on vaccinations, spayed, and micro chipped. She is currently undergoing treatment for HW Disease. Rescue Me ID: 17-02-06-00079Truman (male)

Redbone Coonhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Truman is a sweet gentleman looking for a home to call him own! He is a typically a mellow guy who enjoys lounging around the house, but will quickly jump up with excitement when you break out the leash for a walk. His eagerness, and strong 60-pound frame, can cause him to pull occasionally, but he responds well with gentle leaders/martingale harnesses and re-direction. In the yard, Truman loves to sniff around, talk to neighbor dogs, and lay in the yard. Because of his hound nose, he requires a 6-foot fence to make sure his adventures are contained to the backyard. Truman does well with other dogs and kids, and loves nothing more than to ... (Read More)snuggle up next his people. He is also content sleeping on a comfy pillow on the floor at night, with the exception of those scary thunderstorms nights. Truman is potty trained and currently kenneled during the day, but does best when let out to every 4-6 hours during the day. Some of Truman's favorites things: walks, lake swims, peanut butter Kong's, antlers & bones, grunting, leaning in for hugs!! He also knows the commands of 'sit, 'come' and 'no'! Truman is current on vaccinations, neutered, micro chipped and HW negative! If you are interested in Truman, please fill out an adoption application at www.bassetandbeagle.org (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-02-02-00319Skipper (male)

Beagle    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Well hello there! I'm Skipper. I may look like an older gentleman on the outside but inside there is a younger, respectable and slightly energetic man. My foster mom tells me I'm about 8 years old and I weigh around 37lbs. but at times I feel like a young pup! I am quite the intelligent man too. I know many commands and become ecstatic when my foster mom says it's time to train. I love to learn and I really love to get treats! My foster mom says I should go to a home with a yard and I am in complete agreement. Sometimes my young energy kicks in and I need a place to get it all out. I am respectable though. I do not dig or climb fences. I do ... (Read More)like to let the neighborhood know I exist with my old man bark. All the other dogs bark so I can respond, right? If I get a little rowdy I quickly listen to my foster mom's correction and come right in. She gets so excited that I listen so well! I currently have 4 other dogs to play with and I quite enjoy them. I want to be friends with them all even though the grumpy old one doesn't want to be friends with anyone. But even when she yells at me I respectfully listen and walk away. The younger dogs enjoy playing with me and help get that young energy out. I also have a human sibling. She's 4 years old and I enjoy watching her run about. I love when she stops to pet me and I have learned that she drops food at the table. She might just be my favorite human in the house! I know she is a tiny person so I never jump on her and I am careful when walking near her. I don't want to hurt my food buddy! I like to snuggle with my foster mom and dad. I'll lay beside them on the couch and they will rub me and it feels amazing. Most of the time I lie on my bed on the floor. I enjoy having my own special spot to go to when I am tired. I have quickly learned to go here when foster mom tells me to as well. Foster mom says she is very impressed with my quick learning abilities! Foster mom says my only 'setback' is I am a very strong boy. I surprised her the first time she walked me. I tried telling her she needed to keep up with my strength but she insists on teaching me how to walk calmer on a leash. There are just so many smells!!! Foster mom says I will need a strong owner for walking. As of now, foster mom insists on kenneling me when everyone is gone. The kennel can be a very scary place and I can get nervous when in it. Foster mom is helping me realize the kennel is a safe place and we are working on being free when everyone is gone. I am not destructive when everyone is home but foster mom said it's better to be safe than sorry when everyone leaves. We are working on being out alone for short periods of time and foster mom says that I am showing her I am a very good boy with great promise! Skipper is current on vaccinations, HW negative, neutered, and micro chipped. If you are interested in Skipper, please fill out an adoption application at www.bassetandbeagle.org (Less)

Basset Hound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

HELLO FUREVER FAMILIES! My name is Lady and my foster mom says I am a BEAUTIFUL one-year-old Basset/Coonhound mix. I have a long body like a Basset Hound; but my legs are longer, although not quite as long as a Coonhound. My first family found me on their property just before winter started. They told my foster family I was 'emaciated' and not very healthy. They truly loved me back to health and taught me how to be a 'Lady.' I was so confused and sad when I went to live with my foster family. I overheard my family explain how I distracted the service dog in the home because I always wanted to play. That big dog helped keep my skin-sister ... (Read More)healthy, so now I am looking for a new FUREVER FAMILY!! Since being in rescue, I have made lots of new friends. I have tons of energy, I love running around the back yard, and I am still very playful. I love toys, children, cats, and other little creatures, like ferrets. I come right away when my foster parents call me and I follow commands almost immediately. When I am all tuckered out, I love belly-rubs and cuddles!! My humans say I am a quick learner and I am totally housebroken. My perfect FUREVER home would give me LOTS of play time. Also, I would really enjoy a running partner in order to stay lean and lady-like. I stay in my kennel at night and while my humans are at work, just so I don't get into any trouble. Getting out of the kennel is my favorite parts of the day!! Will you love me FUREVER and be my family? Lady is current on vaccinations, HW negative, spayed, and micro chipped. Rescue Me ID: 17-01-01-00082Suzi (female)

Bluetick Coonhound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Suzi is a 3 year old, 50lb. coonhound mix with the sweetest disposition. She is an extremely intelligent dog and figured out the dog door in her foster home in under an hour without any coaching. She will go stand at the door to go outside if a dog door is not available. Suzi loves to be with her people and will follow you anywhere, but she especially loves to go on car rides. Suzi does well with the other dogs in the house, but does have a strong prey drive for smaller animals. Suzi has ignored the kitties at the pet store, but was a little too interested in them one on one, so she would prefer to be in a home without cats. She would love ... (Read More)to have a canine playmate or trips to the dog park if she is an only dog. Suzi was initially food protective with other dogs, but not humans, and this has disappeared as she has become accustomed to a regular feeding schedule. She has never shown aggression with a human of any age, even around food. Suzi has severe allergies that restrict her food choices to a readily available prescription dog food (about $80 a month) or a recipe created especially for her by a veterinary nutritionist that is easy to prepare. She receives weekly allergy shots as well as medicated baths and occasionally other medications and she takes them all like a champ. She will approach her foster mom and sit for her when she sees the needle and vial come out for her weekly injections and will take pills willingly with a few pieces of her kibble. We have just started a new allergy treatment and she is responding so well, we are phasing out her pills and possibly her allergy shots. The new treatment should last 4-8 weeks and we are watching to determine this time frame for her. Each treatment is $89. She is great with kids of all ages, but would be better off with children old enough to understand not to feed her due to her allergies. She has small children in her foster home that she adores and is the dog celebrity in the neighborhood. Suzi is a foodie and likes everything whether she is allergic to it or not, so care must be taken to ensure human food is out of reach. Suzi is extremely mellow and loves spending time laying on the dog beds or whatever soft blankets she can find closest to you. She rarely barks, even when the neighbor dogs are greeting her loudly. She sleeps through the night and has not had any accidents in her foster home. She knows 'sit' and 'go to bed' and she has started kenneling herself in the mornings when her foster family picks up their coats and bags to head out for the day. Although she does not like being in her kennel, she rests quietly once inside. She arrived with skin and ear infections due to her allergies, but is completely healed. Suzi shares t-shirts (youth small/6x) with her human foster sister to prevent her from scratching and biting her skin. She is working on leash training as she gets so excited about being out that she pulls on a leash. She would love to finally be in her forever home after being bounced around a few times through no fault of her own. She is a wonderful dog just looking for a soft place to land. She is spayed, HW negative and up to date on her vaccinations. Are you the special home for this special girl? If you are interested in Suzi, please fill out and adoption application at www.bassetandbeagle.org (Less)

Beagle Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This smile says it all, doesn't it? Cooper is a happy boy who loves life and is always on the go looking for a new adventure or friend! This boy is a mover and a shaker, but most of all a mover, who would enjoy being active with his family. We think this kid would make an awesome running partner or agility dog, where he could show off his stamina and his desire to please his person. He gets a little nervous in new places, but with someone patient and a little work, we think he would really enjoy discovering the world since he does so well in the car. Cooper is a hound/terrier mix -- really an All-American boy and completely unique. He ... (Read More)loves to play with other dogs, and has a rough and tumble personality with a bold play-style -- not for dog playmates who are faint of heart! Cooper is working on learning to share toys, but could live with other pups and thrive so long as boundaries are set and followed by his family. Cooper loves puzzle feeding toys and is one smart cookie! Cooper is an adolescent dog, so he will need someone to continue showing him how to be the best dog he can be. He's a loving boy and very loyal, a kid who likes to keep his people close, but is also fine hanging out and chewing a bone rather than demanding constant attention. We think Cooper is as special as they come and we cannot wait for him to find his family. If you think that may be you, apply today! Cooper is microchipped, UTD on shots and is neutered. Treeing Walker Coonhound    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

****ADOPTION PENDING*** i! My name is JJ the Wonder Hound, aka 'Kid Dy-no-mite!' A lot can happen in a year. In one year, I was born, abandoned, shot, suffered a broken leg and was rescued. Whew! Being JJ is a full time job!! I am a Treeing Walker Coonhound currently being fostered in Springfield, Missouri. I came into rescue when I was found in a rural area, limping. The limp was the result of a gunshot wound, which resulted in breaking my leg. But, I am fully healed, and the past injury does not slow me down a bit. I am up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and neutered. At just a little over 1 year old, I still retain some ... (Read More)of the exuberance of a puppy, but I am slowly settling into the expected maturity of adulthood. Like most coonhounds, I'm a bit of a clown with a sweet disposition and a heart of gold. My adoptive home will need a privacy fence, as I can jump a typical 4 ft chain link fence (I told you that my past injury doesn't slow me down). I have been fostered with other dogs and with cats, and I get along well with both. A household with another dog that could show me the ropes would be greatly appreciated. Because of my size and exuberance, I would probably do well with older children. I am a bit of a power chewer. I would like a good supply of appropriate chewable items, especially Nylabones and Kong toys. (I like my Kong treat dispenser, but my little beagle foster sister, Daisy, stole it from me; I don't mess with her!). Your home may need to be proofed against the antics of a 70 lb toddler. I have done well when left the run of the house, but because my foster family has a doggie door (and I can jump the fence) I have been restricted indoors because of my chewing. So, I am currently crated while my dad is at work, which is not great for me, but I make it work. An active household would be a good fit for me. If you're the right family for a sweet, goofy hound, please consider me, JJ. There is never a dull moment with me in your life! DY-NO-MITE!!! Jack Russell Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Rex!! Rex is a Jack Russell /Pug mix who is 6-7 years old! Rex knows his name but chooses to ignore it if preoccupied with important doggy business. Usually, though, he will come when called. He's a happy dog who wants to be loved and really likes tummy rubs. He also likes to play with other dogs but may fit best in a home with only one other dog about his same size or where he's the only dog. When he's not playing he wants to 'protect' his person from other dogs and has picked up a few nicks as a result. He should probably go to a home with no children under about 10. He's apparently been spoiled and, if he doesn't want to be picked ... (Read More)up or give up his toy, he does growl but has never actually snapped. He would be a good watch dog; he did not like the Cox repairman coming into our yard but once properly introduced he was fine. Rex also enjoys enthusiastically running around the back yard and laying in the sun. His preferred spot is on top of the patio table. He can jump and climb and loves to sit on the highest spot. He respects boundaries like fences and baby/pet gates. He is not entirely crate-trained but will go in to eat or if motivated by a treat, so he can likely adjust to it. At this time, he is accustomed to spending nights outside the crate and has behaved well. He is housebroken and has had no accidents. He likes to go on rides in the car. Rex does reasonably well on a leash but would do better with a harness. He wants to be a lap dog and if he can't actually be in your lap, he wants to be close by. He likes toys, especially knotted balls. He may know the 'sit' command. Rex is current on vaccinations, HW negative, neutered, and micro chipped.
